• Parking garage makes a really cool photography location spot for high school seniors. If you live in a big city with access to a parking garage, especially one with a rooftop – give it a try. You won’t be disappointed with the modern senior portraits that you can get at this awesome spot.
Get him to rub his hands together as if he was washing them with soap, and ask him to look in a variety of directions while doing this. There are so many different styles, shapes, and shades of sunglasses that you can pretty much pick a pair for every single mood or outfit! Adding sunglasses to your outfit gives you the opportunity to show off your flirtatious, sassy, or fun-loving personality. Accessories can add so much to your outfit...so be sure to select pieces that complement your outfits and showcase your fun personality. Use this preset for creative graduation photos taken outdoors with the background of trees and flowers.
And now a few rules on what NOT to wear for your photos...
Seniors are usually required to take their yearbook photos in specific studios – every high school graduate knows that. Creative magazine-cover senior portraits are quite different from that. Sitting poses are also great for guys, but photographers need to be careful at which angle they are photographing. It’s a great idea to review male model photography for inspirations on new sitting poses. I know that this idea won’t apply to everyone, but if you have a twin brother or sister definitely take some photos of both of you together. Twins have an indescribable bond, and it’s important to capture that through artistic senior portraits.
When shopping for a senior outfit, be sure to go with colors that complement the photoshoot location. We love pastel and neutral colors because they allow you to stand out better against a lush greenery backdrop and look soft and dreamy on the beach. Another great idea for senior pictures by the water is a boat dock. Senior guys like this location because it's unique and not overrated. While there is nothing wrong with wearing the same shoes for your whole session, only do so if they align with all your outfits. If you are mixing casual and formal styles, you will likely need different shoes to pair with each one.

For a touch of elegance, choose a cute ruffle-sleeved T-shirt. These details on the shoulders will look great in the photo and raise your complete outfit to the next level. However, I’d recommend staying away from tops with structured sleeves if you have an inverted triangle body because they will make your shoulders look even bigger.
This pose is similar to the wall pose but with added pizzazz. Seniors lean with their backs against a wall, gate, fence, or similar structure. They should stick their arms out perpendicularly and bend them upwards at the elbow, so their hands are level with their heads. The senior photoshoot shouldn’t add to your pile of stressful decisions. One of the best social media platforms for image references isInstagram. I’m pretty sure that almost every senior has this app and uses it daily. You can find senior photographers on Instagram by doing a simple hashtag search.
Capturing it will be a nice way to show day-to-day activities. You can bring to life funny picture senior ideas photographing together with your mates. For example, in South Carolina, where we create our High School Senior Portraits, the winters are very mild, spring starts early, and the fall is mostly warm.
Reasons to Have Professional Senior Portraits
Fortunately, the tips, ideas, and techniques above will help you capture great senior pictures, even if your senior subject is shy around a camera. Many people, especially many guys, tend to freeze up when it’s time to pose for a photo. However, when they don’t think about being photographed, they open up and appear natural.
The idea is that the senior cups his hands around an object in the background. Thanks to a trick of perspective, the senior in the finished photo uses his hands to frame the sun, moon, some local landmark, or anything else interesting. Senior pictures provide a lifelong keepsake for an important milestone in life.
It is a way that they can see what colors compliment each other. Different hats such as a baseball cap, cowboy hat, or homburg hat can add a personal touch to your senior portraits. As photographers, we know that senior guys and senior girls will have a totally different taste in photoshoot locations. Guys prefer more urban places, in the studio, or out in the sports field.
Include your instrument during the senior portrait session, since this may be the only professional pictures you will have with it. A library or a bookstore is another excellent spot for creative senior pictures. Senior year is usually the hardest and busiest for the graduates, so it will be a significant location for them. Find out if they allow taking photos in the library before you dive into the photoshoot.
Speaking of angles – certain tips help to achieve more creative male portraits. Whenever the photographer shoots from a slightly lower angle, it creates a stronger and more confident posture for the client. Senior boys have slightly different photoshoot location preferences than girls.
The days of staring directly into the camera with a giant grin are long gone. Today, side shots and photo ideas are commonplace and popular. A profile photo often looks dignified, serious, and contemplative.

This type of makeup can make you look like you’re sweaty, crying, or drooling in photographs. All clothing should be ironed and arrive to the shoot on hangers. If you do not have a non-glare coating on your lenses, consider asking you optician to remove your lenses from the frame for the photo session.
